Did You Miss The Open Enrollment Deadline?
The final day of the Affordable Care Act’s individual open enrollment period for 2017 was January 31. During the open enrollment period, individuals can freely shop plan options, change their benefits, or obtain new coverage with no questions asked.
Outside of the open enrollment period, however, individuals can only obtain compliant health coverage when experiencing a qualifying life event, such as:
- Involuntary loss of coverage through employer plan
- No longer a dependent
- Marriage
- Birth or adoption
- Permanent move causing current plan to be involuntarily terminated
If an individual does not have one of the above examples of a qualifying life event, consider obtaining short-term health insurance. Short-term coverage can protect in the event of a catastrophe or emergency so you don’t have to go uninsured.
Contact a Caravus Individual Market consultant for more information to see if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period or to discuss short-term coverage options.
