Caravus Negotiates Additional Payment From Insurance Carrier to Cover Emergency Medical Services, Saves Member $1.3K
The Client
Medium-sized Real Estate Firm
The Challenge
A member’s dependent hurt themselves during school hours and had to be transported from school to the hospital by ambulance. After they recovered, the member received an extremely high bill from the ambulance company as it was out of network.
The Solution
With ambulance services being randomly assigned to calls, there was no way the member could have prevented using an out-of-network ambulance provider, but they were curious if their insurance could cover some of the costs. They contacted their Caravus Advocate to see if anything could be done to lower the cost of the bill. After reviewing the member’s medical and payment history, the Advocacy team noticed they had met their yearly deductible, so they began negotiating with the insurance carrier.
The Outcome
After speaking with a direct contact at the member’s insurance company, the team worked out an agreement with the carrier. Since the member had already reached their deductible for the year, the carrier made an extra payment to cover the balance of the ambulance bill, saving the member over $1,300.
