Employee’s Coverage Election Switched Well After Open Enrollment Period, Avoids Paying Thousands in Out-of-Pocket Costs

The Client

Large Marketing and Sales Organization

The Challenge

An employee with an extremely rare type of Leukemia realized they enrolled in a medical plan that would not cover the specialists they needed to see, nor would cover the majority of their chemotherapy medications. If they remained on their enrolled plan, they would have to cover thousands of dollars for treatment out of their own pocket. They also had dependents enrolled in that same plan that should not have been enrolled.

The Solution

One of our Caravus Client Advocates worked with the organization’s insurance carrier to switch the employee to a medical plan that would cover all of the doctors they needed to see and made sure it also covered the entire cost of the medications – well after the organization’s annual Open Enrollment.  They also assisted with updating their dependent coverage separately, ensuring there was never any lapse in the coverage for either situation.

The Outcome

The issue was resolved quickly, and the client’s employee was extremely grateful and relieved for all of the help and support they received during very difficult and stressful time in their life.
